What a fun essay and interesting list of recent words you have come across. Here is one word I really llike. Tsundoku. It is a Japanese word meaning "stacks of books you've purchased but haven't read yet"! I am guilty of tsundoku!!
One of my favorite words is “murmuration” which is when a flock of birds coordinate their dips and dives and fly in unison across the sky. My 10-year-old granddaughter, an avid reader who wants to become an ornithologist, taught this word to me, and I’ve never forgotten it.
Oh, chimerical is BEAUTIFUL! I've never heard someone say it IRL, but now I'll be looking out for it. I knew of chimera, but I didn't realize there was an adjectival form. Thank you for the new word!
Behold, the other (musical theater) reason why it is my favorite word. You might already know this show, but if not, forgive the shaky footage because this is the original Broadway cast and holy crap, in this silly, goofy show about kids at a spelling bee this song comes in the middle and rips your heart out. If you have time, its worth the watch to the end. (The whole show is brilliant.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq9cDdN9orA&list=RDAq9cDdN9orA&start_radio=1
Murmuration is also one of my favorite words! In addition to the definition provided, it is also a collective noun--a murmuration of starlings. I love collective nouns! One of my favorite words, for a long time now, is serendipity (also serendipitous), which means, roughly, a happy coincidence.
I'm the same way, and often wonder how much of my fascination with words and word choice stem from my first language being something other than English! That and my neurodivergence that gives me a compulsive need to choose my words with hairline precision 😆 Loved that list of words you're loving right now, those will now be tumbling around in my mind.
Most of my reading is now done on a kindle. While I was at first reluctant to give up physical books, kindle reading is just more convenient and it means I can read while my husband sleeps and I don't disturb him. One of the biggest bonuses of reading on kindle is the ability to look up a word on the fly. I don't have to move an inch. I just hold my finger over the word, and the definition appears. I find I do it all. the. time. And I love it. I look up new words, but also words I know, just to see what nuance there is in the definition. And yes, some words I can't seem to keep in my brain.
I wish I had good examples for you, but that's something I terrible at.

Me too, Monica! And I would not have it any other way ;) we hoard words and books!

I love this word, too. Susurration reminded me of it.
I love both these words so much! They're like lullabyes.
I love the word borborygmus so much! I think my favorite word is chimerical. It's just fun to say.

My favorite word is serendipity.
For turbid, think muddy water.

What a playful essay 🤗 Solipsistic is one that I keep hearing, and the meaning keeps eluding me. I want to use it in the wild!
I never feel like a word is mine until I can use it!
Straphanger is a recent find for me! I love to keep a list of cool, previously unknown words! Absquatulate is a personal and family favorite.
Wow, these are both SO good! I’m going to find a way to use absquatulate as soon as possible! Thank you!

I like the thought of tumbling words! What a great image!
I try to make a point of looking up new words out of curiosity. Sometimes I glaze over them, but that's boring, and I gain nothing from it.
Today I read the word escargatoire, which refers to a collection of snails, and I can't stop saying it to myself!
What an incredible word! So dignified, so specific! Thanks for introducing it to me.
Ooh, a new collective noun for me to collect! I had not heard that one before.

I love that feature in a Kindle too!
Love this so much. Thank you,
